چکیده

-CLL is frequently accompanied by decreased levels of serum immunoglobulins which increases patients susceptibility to infections (1,2). Low levels of IgA, IgM and IgG occur in 30%, 30% and 10% of B-CLL patients respectively at the time of diagnosis. The appearance of decreased levels of immunoglobulins is a continuos process developing spontaneously during the untreated course of the disease. As the clinical stage of the disease advances there is a trend for a more frequently decreased levels of immunoglobulins. In other low grade B-cell malignancies such as small lymphocytic lymphoma and hairy cell leukemia hypergammaglobulinemia is, on the contrary, often present (1-5). Patients with advanced stage of the disease, heavier bone marrow infiltration or high absolute lymphocyte count tend to be hypogammaglobulinemic even at diagnosis (1,6). The prognostic significance of immunoglobulin levels was analyzed by studying their influence on survival.

APRIL but not BLyS serum levels are increased in chronic lymphocytic leukemia: prognostic relevance of APRIL for survival.

APRIL (a proliferation-inducing ligand) and BLyS (B lymphocyte stimulator) expression have been reported in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells. We examined APRIL and BLyS serum levels in CLL patients and evaluated the prognostic significance of APRIL expression on survival.

Dicer Gene Expression as a Prognostic Factor in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in Fars Province

Alterations in the expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) have been proposed to play a role in the pathogenesis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Dicer is one of the main regulators of miRNA biogenesis, and deregulation of its expression has been indicated as a possible cause of miRNA alterations observed in various cancers. Our aim was to analyze the expre...

Many chronic lymphocytic leukemia antibodies recognize apoptotic cells with exposed nonmuscle myosin heavy chain IIA: implications for patient outcome and cell of origin.

Many B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) can be grouped into subsets based on nearly identical stereotyped sequences. Subset 6 CLL mAbs recognize nonmuscle myosin heavy chain IIA (MYHIIA). Herein, we report that during apoptosis, MYHIIA becomes exposed on the cell surface of a subgroup of apoptotic cells, allowing subset 6 CLL mAbs to bind with it. Because oth...

CLINICAL TRIALS AND OBSERVATIONS Impact of immune thrombocytopenia on the clinical course of chronic lymphocytic leukemia

The prevalence, clinical characteristics, and prognostic significance of immune thrombocytopenia (IT) in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) have not been clearly determined. To clarify this, we retrospectively analyzed 1278 consecutive newly diagnosed patients with CLL. Criteria for IT diagnosis included the following: rapid (< 2 weeks) and severe fall (half of the initial level a...
